Higashi Chaya District

Preserved district of wooden houses hosting teahouses, craft shops, and gold-leaf workshops.

Dark lattice façades line narrow lanes where ochaya—traditional geisha houses—still stand. Today ground floors host shops selling gold leaf, lacquerware, and local sweets. The atmosphere recalls Edo-period Japan, despite the tourist crowds that fill the streets.
