Large wooden gate from 1203 guarded by two monumental statues, entrance to Tōdai-ji.
Nandaimon marks the southern entrance to Tōdai-ji temple with its 25-meter height and double roof. Two sculpted guardians over 8 meters tall stand watch beneath the structure. Rebuilt in the 13th century, the gate exemplifies Kamakura period religious architecture.
